Frequently Asked Questions
FAQ About the Rescue
Do you sell birds?
No we do not sell birds. You will notice an adoption fee for our birds. 100% of those fees go back into the rescue. No one at our rescue is paid anything for what they do. We rely solely on our dedicated volunteers for everything we do. The money is also used for educational programs, bird toys, bird food, vet bills (mostly), cages and more.
I want to help volunteer, but I don't have a lot of time, can I still help?
Yes. It doesn't matter if you have 2 hours a week or 25 hours a week, any help is greatly appreciated. We need help with cleaning cages, raising babies, food/water, training and more. Especially getting the birds out and interacting with them.
Where will my bird(s) go if I give it to you?
In almost every case your bird(s) will be matched up with an adoption family. We take pride in the process we have in place to find the right home for every bird. In some cases birds are unable to be adopted to foster homes, therefore the birds typically spend the rest of their life at our rescue, like Gideon. We also have many connections with other rescue facilities and zoo's around the country, helping us find that perfect home for each birds needs.
Will you be mad or unhappy with me if I cannot take care or don't want my bird anymore and I give it to you?
Of course not. We know things change and what was a good idea then, maybe not be such a good idea now. Sometimes a bird starts to bite, swear, pluck its feathers, scream, etc. We would rather you let us find it the best home instead of just dealing with it.
What if I really want a bird you do not have?
Let us know anyways. We get birds in often and even if it's not from our rescue, we may know other rescues that have the bird your looking for.
I found a Robin, Seagull, Cardinal, Hawk, or Owl, will you take that?
Unfortunately, we cannot take these birds. We only deal with exotic birds, not wild birds. We have found a place you can call however, visit our Links Page to find the link to the DNR Rehabilitation Roster.
Do you hatch baby birds?
NO. We do not breed birds. Occasionally we do put nests or bird boxes in the cages with the birds in order to give them a place to hide in most cases. If they do lay an egg, that means they are happy, but we still don't let them hatch the babies, we remove the eggs right away. We are not big fans of breeders or retail sales of birds because typically the screening process isn't very thorough, hence we end up bearing the burden of all the birds coming into our rescue because people didn't know what they were getting into. Please try to promote adoption over buying birds from breeders or pet stores!
